PDSA Pet Aid

Our Saltcoats and Lochwinnoch surgeries are members of the People's Dispensary for Sick Animals (PDSA) PetAid Scheme.

Under this scheme, the PDSA will help those who are eligible with their unexpected veterinary fees.

The PDSA will cover cats, dogs and small furries but will only cover one animal per household and they must be registered with the PDSA before they  need treatment.

To be eligible for the PDSA scheme…

YOU MUST

  • Live within the postcode boundary (KA11 - KA15, KA20 - KA25 or  PA12)
  • Receive either housing benefit or council tax benefit

YOUR PET MUST

  • Be up to date with their vaccinations
  • Be up to date with flea and worming control
  • Be microchipped
  • Be neutered - if over 1 year old for dogs or over 6 months old for cats
  • Have a health check from a veterinary surgeon

Please be aware that the following are NOT covered by PDSA:

  • Vaccinations
  • Routine neutering
  • Flea and worming preventative treatments
  • House calls
  • Case referrals
  • Pregnancy diagnosis
  • Suppression of seasons and terminations of pregnancies
  • Costs relating to planned matings
  • Attention to insured or stray animals
  • Private cremation
  • Laboratory tests not essential for diagnosis
  • Post mortem examinations
  • Pet food

These conditions allow the limited funds supplied by the PDSA to go as far as possible allowing better treatment for all in the long term.

If you would like to apply for PDSA PetAid support please drop in to either Saltcoats or Lochwinnoch, where our staff will be pleased to help you. You will need to fill in an application form, provide proof of council tax benefit or housing benefit and supply us with a £7.50 postal order made out to the PDSA. If your application is accepted, the PDSA will send you  a certificate that you will need to bring with you each time you visit the Oaks. The certificate is valid for a fixed period of time before requiring renewal.

We always invite pet owners to make a voluntary contribution for treatment provided at each visit.  PDSA relies entirely on donations and does not receive any funding from HM government or the National Lottery towards its PetAid services.

Additional Information

The certificate holder and spouse/agent are the only persons who can attend and sign for PDSA PetAid service treatment.

During the validity of the certificate the pet owner remains a client of the Oaks.  If the registered owner chooses to consult another practice during this time, neither PDSA nor the Oaks will accept responsibility for any fees incurred.

The PDSA reserves the right to verify any information given by a pet owner in connection with their PDSA PetAid registration.
